Over the 2015 Memorial Day Weekend, Lake in the Hills police pulled over 34 vehicles for various offenses within 46 hours. Part of the “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over”campaign, LITH law enforcement targets drivers who are inebriated or under the influence of illegal substances or in violation of seat belt laws. A report furnished IDOT and NHTSA data “show Illinois roads are deadliest from midnight to 3 am. Data also indicate that’s the time when alcohol involvement is at its highest and seat belt usages is at its lowest. Two drivers were pulled over and charged with DUI, another driver was charged with possession of a controlled substance, and one driver driving 35 mph over the speed limit. Partial funding of the program was provided by the Illinois Department of Transportation’s Sustained Traffic Enforcement Program (STEP).
